How Vanitaa Bhatia Turned a Vision into a Global Fashion Force

22.04.2026

VANITAA BHATIA Founder, DIVAlicious | Pioneer of Global Fashion Exhibitions
Vanitaa Bhatia builds worlds, not events. As the founder of DIVAlicious, she has spent over 15 years transforming the fashion exhibition industry, creating a platform now active across 12 cities, from Dubai and Mumbai to Nairobi, Hong Kong, and Bangkok.
Equal parts creative visionary and sharp-minded entrepreneur, Vanitaa has made DIVAlicious synonymous with precision curation, cultural intelligence, and a retail experience that puts the modern woman firmly at its centre. The result is a global community of designers, shoppers, and tastemakers who return, season after season, because DIVAlicious delivers something no algorithm can replicate: a genuine sense of occasion.

DIVAlicious isn’t just shopping. It’s a statement.

When you first launched DIVAlicious, did you imagine it would reach this scale?
DIVAlicious was always conceived as a scalable platform, not a single event. From the outset, I wanted to build something with genuine structural ambition, a model that could be replicated across cities without sacrificing quality, curation, or the operational discipline that makes a brand credible.

Today, we are active across India and the UAE, with a consistent presence in Nairobi, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bahrain, and Bangkok, and we are continuously exploring new markets. What has made this growth possible is a combination of a deeply committed team, rigorous market research, long-standing designer relationships, and strong media and venue partnerships. The scale has grown significantly, but the intent to build a global platform was always part of the blueprint.

You’ve spent more than 15 years shaping fashion exhibitions. How has the concept of the shopping experience evolved?
Shopping has moved from the purely transactional to the deeply experiential, and that shift has been fundamental.
In the early days, exhibitions were, at their core, marketplaces. Today’s consumer expects something far more layered: discovery, storytelling, an environment that feels considered. She wants to engage with the brands she buys from, understand the craftsmanship behind a piece, and feel connected to a larger lifestyle.
That evolution is precisely what shaped the architecture of DIVAlicious. We don’t think in rows of stalls; we think in experience design. Across every city we operate in, the retail performance and the atmosphere are given equal weight. One cannot succeed without the other.

DIVAlicious blends fashion, lifestyle, and community. Why was it important to create something beyond a traditional shopping event?
Because modern women don’t experience fashion in isolation. It is bound up in identity, in social life, in the way we choose to spend our time and our money.I wanted DIVAlicious to be a space where a woman could shop and also exhale, discover a new label, reconnect with her community, enjoy an afternoon that felt genuinely pleasurable rather than purely purposeful. By layering fashion with hospitality and a sense of occasion, we created an ecosystem, not merely an event.
That emotional investment is what builds loyalty. It is why our audience returns, season after season, across multiple cities.

You work with both emerging designers and established brands. What drives your curation process?
Curation, for us, is a rigorous discipline. We evaluate design integrity, quality, pricing architecture, scalability, and brand narrative. Established names bring credibility and draw footfall; emerging designers bring freshness and the thrill of discovery. Both are essential.Because we operate across markets as diverse as India, the UAE, Nairobi, and Southeast Asia, we also invest heavily in understanding local buying behaviour. Every selection is commercially considered. Our platform exists to generate real, meaningful business for our exhibitors and the curation must reflect that responsibility.

Expanding internationally requires deep cultural fluency. How do you adapt DIVAlicious for each city?
Localisation is not a courtesy. It is the foundation of everything.
Every city brings a different consumer mindset, spending capacity, and aesthetic sensibility. Before we enter any market, we conduct thorough research into fashion preferences, price points, seasonality, and customer behaviour. We build relationships with strong local partners and media networks who understand their communities in ways that no outsider can replicate.
The DIVAlicious identity remains consistent across the standards, the atmosphere, the values, but the curation, the communication, and the brand mix are always tailored. That balance between global coherence and local relevance is what allows us to operate with equal confidence in Bangkok, Bahrain, Hong Kong, and Nairobi.

What defines the modern fashion consumer, in your view?
She is informed, independent, and intentional. She knows what she wants, and she is not interested in being sold to. She wants to discover.Quality, versatility, and authenticity are her non-negotiables. She is looking for pieces that speak to her personality and earn their place across multiple occasions. She also values her time immensely, which is why the curated, all-under-one-roof experience of DIVAlicious resonates so deeply. She wants efficiency without compromise and that is exactly what we are built to deliver.

What has been the most rewarding success story you’ve witnessed through the platform?
Watching small, homegrown labels grow into fully realised businesses through DIVAlicious. That never gets old.Designers who came to us with a single stall now run retail stores, export internationally, and exhibit with us across multiple cities. Witnessing an entrepreneur move from passion project to sustainable enterprise is profoundly fulfilling. We are not simply providing retail space. We are, in a very real sense, enabling futures.

What leadership principles have guided you throughout this journey?
Consistency comes from systems, not from chance, and that belief underpins everything.
My approach is rooted in discipline, credibility, and the long game of relationships. Strong operations, timely execution, and transparent communication are non-negotiable. Many of our designers, venue partners, and media collaborators have been with us for over a decade. That kind of loyalty is not accidental; it is earned and maintained.

When you operate across multiple countries and cultures, consistency is what builds trust and trust, ultimately, is what builds a global brand.

As a woman leading a global fashion platform, what challenges have shaped you most as an entrepreneur?
The most enduring challenge has been balancing creative vision with operational rigour.Fashion carries a certain glamour from the outside, but the machinery beneath it, the logistics, the finance, the negotiations, the team management, is unrelenting. Building recognition as a serious business leader in this space required both resilience and an absolute clarity of purpose. Those pressures, ultimately, were transformative. They turned DIVAlicious from a creative concept into a professionally structured organisation with genuine scalability. I am grateful for every difficult moment that demanded more of me.

What is your vision for the future of DIVAlicious?
To evolve into a truly global lifestyle and retail ecosystem, one that is as relevant in the digital space as it is on the ground. We will continue deepening our presence across India, the UAE, Nairobi, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Bahrain, and Bangkok, while expanding into new cities that align with our audience and our partners. Alongside our physical shows, we are developing stronger digital extensions, brand collaborations, and increasingly immersive experiences. The ambition is to make DIVAlicious the most trusted fashion discovery platform in the world, for consumers and designers alike. Not just an exhibition. A sustainable, enduring global business.
