World Fitness Champion | Master Coach | Founder of Annathletics | Dubai Based
Ana Elena Dumitrescu has never separated who she is from what she does. Born in Romania and now based in Dubai, she transformed a lifetime shaped by discipline, sport, and ambition into a global fitness career. From sprinter to world fitness champion, Ana Elena claimed the title of World Fitness Champion in Copenhagen in 2019 before evolving into a master coach who has transformed more than 2,000 lives. Today, she channels that same vision into Annathletics, an activewear brand rooted in the belief that strength and femininity should always exist together.
Everything I am today was built through sport. It transformed my life in ways I never expected and taught me to approach every aspect of life with an athlete’s mindset.
Your relationship with sport began 25 years ago when you were just nine years old. Before the titles, the championships, and the global career, what did that little girl find in sport that she could not find anywhere else?
Day by day, I understood that sport would become much more than just training. It became my escape, my discipline, my confidence, and later, my identity. As a child, I found in sport something I could not find anywhere else: a sense of purpose. Sport gave me a reason to keep going. It taught me how to fight silently and showed me that whatever life brings, I have the power to overcome it. Through some of the hardest moments of my life, it taught me resilience, discipline, and mental strength. For me, sport is even more than passion. It is loyalty. A loyalty that has stayed with me for 25 years and will stay with me forever.
You spent five years as a competitive sprinter before dedicating over a decade to bodybuilding and fitness at the highest level. What drove you to keep going deeper rather than simply settling where you were?
I kept going because I have always had a deeply competitive spirit, but first of all with myself. It was never only about competing against others. It was about becoming better than the person I was yesterday. Both athletics and bodybuilding pushed me to constantly evolve, physically and mentally. I never wanted to settle. What also drove me was the desire to build a career based on authenticity, to teach what I truly live and what I have personally experienced. Everything I teach today as a master coach comes from years of discipline, sacrifice, victories, failures, and self-development through sport. For me, sport was never just performance. It became a lifelong path of becoming stronger in every aspect of life.
In 2019 you stood on a stage in Copenhagen and became World Fitness Champion. Take us into that moment. What did it feel like, what did it cost you to get there, and what did it change in you permanently?
Standing on that stage was one of the proudest moments of my life. Not only because of the title itself, but because of everything it represented behind the scenes. It cost me things that people often see as normal in life: no late nights, fewer distractions, and sometimes distancing myself from environments that did not align with the person I wanted to become. But through that journey I realized something powerful: avoiding certain things was no longer a sacrifice. It was what made me become a better person. When I stood on that stage with the world title, I understood that this experience changed me permanently. It showed me how far discipline, vision, and belief in yourself can truly take you.
You describe sport as the school of life. What are the most important lessons it taught you that no academic degree could have given you in quite the same way?
Sport became my real school of life because it taught me lessons no classroom could ever replicate. It taught me discipline: doing what needs to be done even when you do not feel motivated. It taught me resilience: learning how to keep going during difficult moments without giving up. It taught me patience, because real transformation does not come overnight. You learn to trust the process. But maybe the most important lesson sport gave me was belief in myself. It showed me that limits are often mental before they are physical, and that the human body and mind are capable of far more than we think.
You have coached and transformed more than 2,000 people. What does genuine transformation actually look like, and how do you know when someone has truly crossed that threshold?
Real transformation has never been only about changing a body. A physical transformation is often just the visible result of a much deeper internal shift. When someone truly changes, you can see it not only in their physique but in their energy, their discipline, their confidence, and the way they carry themselves through life. I always say that sport changes the way you think before it changes the way you look. The moment someone truly crosses that threshold is when training is no longer about aesthetics or temporary motivation. It becomes part of who they are. You see it when they stop searching for shortcuts, when they begin to trust themselves again, and when the strength they build physically starts helping them face life differently outside the gym. That is a real transformation to me: not just building a body, but building a stronger human being.
You hold a Master’s degree from the University of Sophia Antipolis in Nice and completed specialized coaching studies in Paris, yet your education never really stopped there. What has that commitment to continuous growth given you as a coach that others in your field often lack?
My Master’s degree and coaching studies gave me a strong foundation, but I always believed that growth has to continue far beyond academic education. Sport, coaching, and the human body are constantly evolving, and I always wanted to evolve with them. I invested years into learning through experience, competitions, real-life coaching, and understanding the deep connection between body and mind. I never wanted to become a coach who only teaches theory. I wanted to live everything I teach myself. For me, growth is a lifelong responsibility. The more I grow as a woman, athlete, entrepreneur, and coach, the more value I can give to the people who trust me with their journey.
Your philosophy is that transformation is holistic: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. In a world obsessed with quick fixes, how do you help someone slow down enough to do the deeper work?
One of the first things I help people understand is that fitness is not a punishment. It is a process of building yourself. And building yourself takes patience, discipline, and consistency. Real transformation happens when the body, mind, emotions, and lifestyle evolve together. The deeper work begins when a person stops asking how fast they can change and starts asking who they are becoming through the process. That is when transformation becomes truly lasting.
After years of competing and coaching, you identified a frustration that many women shared: being forced to choose between feeling powerful and feeling feminine in their activewear. How did that become the founding vision of Annathletics?
For years I lived in both worlds: performance and femininity. As an athlete and coach, I wanted activewear that could support strength and high performance, but I never wanted women to feel they had to hide their femininity to be taken seriously in sport. Through coaching thousands of women, I saw that confidence changes everything. When a woman feels powerful in what she wears, she trains differently, walks differently, and carries herself differently. Clothing is not just fabric. It becomes part of identity, mindset, and energy.
Annathletics carries the mission of empowering women to feel confident, capable, and proud of who they are. How do you ensure the product itself lives up to that promise?
Every Annathletics piece is designed not only to look beautiful but to help women feel powerful in their own skin. The fit, the fabric, the support, the details, the silhouette: everything must enhance both performance and femininity. Before a design earns its place in a collection, it has to align with our philosophy: reminding women of the champion they already have inside themselves. Because being powerful does not take away femininity. It elevates it.
You are building Annathletics in Dubai with a vision that is unmistakably global. What do you want the world to understand about this brand five years from now?
Five years from now, I want the world to understand that Annathletics is not just an activewear brand. It is a mindset and a movement. A brand created to remind women everywhere of the champion they carry inside themselves. The woman who wears Annathletics is not defined only by the gym. She carries that mindset into every chapter of her life. She understands that being feminine does not make her weak, and being powerful does not take away her elegance. She can wear Annathletics during training, travel, business meetings, and moments of reinvention, because the brand represents more than clothing. It represents a way of living.
