Anel Mamazhanova, a passionate photographer, found her calling in 2017, when she discovered her love for photography. Since then, she has honed her craft, participating in impactful advertising campaigns and capturing precious moments for charitable causes, shaping a career filled with purpose and creativity.
Anel, please share with us a glimpse into your background and the journey that led you to pursue photography.
I’m Anel, originally hailing from Karaganda, and at 34 years old, I find myself happily married with two wonderful daughters. Since my youth, I’ve harbored a deep yearning to engage in something creatively fulfilling, something that nourishes the soul. I’ve always possessed a unique perspective, finding beauty in every corner of the world. To me, there’s no such thing as an “unattractive person”; each individual holds something inherently captivating. It wasn’t until I found myself on maternity leave that I finally had the opportunity to fully embrace my passion for photography—an opportunity for which I’m profoundly grateful.
What types of photography do you specialize in, and how do you define your unique style?
My specialization primarily lies in portrait photography, complemented by occasional forays into still life, tailored to both client specifications and my artistic vision. I distinguish my style through a minimalist approach, wherein I prioritize accentuating the individual’s essence while eliminating extraneous distractions.
Can you share a pivotal moment or event in your life that has had the greatest influence on your creativity? Has photography changed anything in your life?
Engaging in advertising projects opened up new opportunities and introduced me to fascinating people. Additionally, my involvement with charitable initiatives has profoundly shifted my perspective on life. Photography has indeed altered my perception, opening up new horizons and inspiring me in countless ways.
How do you continue to evolve and enhance your photography skills? Are there specific methods you employ for continual growth?
Nature serves as my primary inspiration and teacher. Venturing into the mountains, going on hikes—it rejuvenates me and provides fresh perspectives. When I return to the urban hustle, I bring with me new ideas and thoughts, contributing to my ongoing development and skill refinement.
What do you consider the key aspect of interacting with models or subjects to achieve the best outcome?
Building a genuine connection and fostering mutual understanding with models or subjects is paramount. Effective communication and alignment of visions are instrumental in realizing the desired outcome.
What are your plans and goals for the near future in your photographic career? Are there new directions or projects you plan to explore or undertake?
Moving forward, my intention is to stay the course while continuously refining my skills and embracing novel opportunities. Currently, I am drawn to the realm of videography and aspire to delve deeper into advertising ventures. My focus remains steadfast on embracing growth, experimentation, and embracing fresh challenges as I navigate my creative journey.
