Velvet Heat: Saint Laurent Through the Lens of the ’90s

05.08.2025

The warm wind of Los Angeles, the heat of the sand underfoot, and two legends who need no introduction. In its new Fall campaign, Saint Laurent’s Anthony Vaccarello takes us back to the magic of the ’90s, bringing together Kate Moss and Chloë Sevigny — women who shaped the aesthetic of an entire era.

The visuals come from Mert Alas — a master of seductive imagery whose work with the brand has already become part of its history. The campaign title, Velvet Heat, captures both the texture and the mood of the shots: sensual, saturated, yet touched with subtle restraint. Moss and Sevigny embrace on a beach in black coats, slip into a pool together, and cruise along the ocean in a convertible. These are more than fashion images — they are cinematic frames about friendship, travel, and an unrelenting need for freedom.

In the short film, Moss recites a poetic text written by Alas, her words syncing with the rhythm of the waves. Chloë Sevigny may not hold the official title of Saint Laurent ambassador, but for Vaccarello she is as much a muse as Kate Moss. Both women are constants in the brand’s campaigns, shows, and front rows, a reminder that Saint Laurent is not just clothing — it’s a way of life.

Last year, Sevigny starred in the second season of the series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”, earning an Emmy nomination for her role. This year, she appears in the drama “Bonjour Tristesse”, based on Françoise Sagan’s novel. Her character, Anne, tries to take control of the life of young Cécile, who longs for independence. But the pursuit of freedom always comes at a cost — sometimes a tragic one.

This campaign is also about freedom — the kind that lives in a glance, a movement, a gentle touch. And about how legends never fade; they simply change their scenery.
