Gucci Cruise 2027 – Demna turns Times Square into a runway

18.05.2026

For his first Cruise collection at Gucci, Demna chose one of the most visible locations in the world – Times Square. The decision felt less like a show venue and more like a statement. Instead of placing fashion inside a controlled environment, the collection entered a space defined by movement, screens, crowds, and constant attention.

Times Square has long operated as a symbol of contemporary visual culture. Millions pass through it every year, surrounded by advertising, media, and spectacle. By staging the collection there, Demna shifted Gucci closer to real-life energy rather than traditional runway distance.

The collection itself pulled from familiar urban characters and everyday observations. Demna often builds narratives around people rather than fantasy, and that approach appeared throughout the show. Casting became part of the message, bringing together figures from different cultural spaces including Tom Brady, Paris Hilton, Anok Yai and Gabbriette.

Details played a central role in constructing the visual language of the collection. Gucci shopping bags appeared as objects integrated into styling rather than simply packaging. Bouquets of flowers became accessories. Fur introduced volume and texture across several looks, while horsebit details returned repeatedly, reconnecting the collection with one of Gucci’s most recognizable codes.

The contrast between archival references and contemporary street culture felt intentional. Demna did not remove Gucci’s identity to build something new. Instead, he repositioned familiar elements within a different environment and rhythm.

From a business perspective, the show extends beyond clothing. Luxury brands increasingly compete not only through products but through visibility and cultural moments. Holding a runway in Times Square transforms the event itself into media currency – instantly shareable, recognizable, and designed for conversation across platforms.

For Gucci, Cruise 2027 becomes more than the beginning of a new creative chapter. It positions the brand at the intersection of fashion, entertainment, and public culture, where attention itself increasingly functions as value.
