A journey in Paris with Sephora

18.10.2023

Sephora is a dynamic and influential figure in the world of fashion and beauty. Her journey as a content creator has not only inspired a diverse audience but also reflects her commitment to inclusivity and empowerment through style and self-expression.

Can you tell us about your journey as a content creator? What inspired you to start creating content, and how has your approach evolved over time?

I’ve always had a passion for dressing up and doing makeup from a young age. Eventually, I decided to share my creations on Instagram, and to my surprise, I started gaining more likes, views, and followers. While my account’s growth was slow but steady, I’ve remained consistent, and the support of my community continues to motivate me to create more content.

How did you discover your passion for fashion?

Growing up, I was surrounded by Congolese culture, which has a deep love for fashion. This natural interest in fashion combined with some modeling experience allowed me to explore fashion on a professional level.

As a content creator based in France, how has the local culture and surroundings influenced your creative process and content style?

Although I find some inspiration from French culture, my style is broad and international. It’s a mix of influences from various places, such as London’s crop tops and oversized jeans with platform boots or Italian fashion with skinny floral dresses, fancy gold jewelry, and stilettos. I also incorporate African styles with Wax dresses that I often design myself. My content reflects this diversity and freedom of expression, which I believe represents France as well.

Your content resonates with a diverse audience. How do you approach inclusivity and representation in your work to ensure everyone feels seen and heard?

Through my social media content, I share personal values like confidence, beauty, happiness, and body positivity. This approach allows me to connect with people from all backgrounds, regardless of their ethnicity or circumstances, inspiring them to feel motivated and empowered.

Fashion has historically faced challenges in terms of diversity and representation. How do you advocate for greater inclusivity within the industry?

The fashion industry is evolving thanks to new designers, artists, and models. As a young black woman, I continue to push myself to make a positive impact and pave the way for future generations of women like me.

Collaborations with brands and fellow creators are common in the industry. How do you select partnerships that align with your values and resonate with your audience?

I carefully choose partners who align with my values and lifestyle. I review their work and policies beforehand, and I also seek advice from my agent, hairstylists, makeup artists, and loved ones. Multiple perspectives help me make informed decisions.

YSL Beauty embraces diversity and inclusivity. How do you incorporate these values into your content and ensure that it resonates with a diverse audience?

I simply stay true to myself in my content and videos. My diversity and inclusivity are integral to who I am, and I take pride in representing categories like being a young mom, black, skinny, and tall while embodying beauty with confidence.

As a content creator collaborating with Fenty Beauty, how do you approach showcasing their products in a way that stands out from other beauty content while maintaining authenticity?

Fenty Beauty is one of my favorite brands, and I feel a deep connection to it. When creating Fenty content, I tap into that authenticity, making the brand an integral part of my content. I truly am a Fenty Girl!

As the industry evolves, what positive changes have you witnessed regarding diversity and inclusion for black individuals in fashion and content creation?

I’m proud to say that I’m one of the few black women collaborating with high-fashion and makeup brands. While this doesn’t make me superior to anyone else, it signifies the changes happening. I see it as my responsibility to keep the door open for other black individuals.

What are your future goals and aspirations, and how do you plan to continue elevating black representation in the industry?

My vision is to continually reach higher heights, take risks, make better choices, and create and recreate. As a content creator, I aim to entertain through fashion and beauty while empowering my community and my people. I will keep inspiring others and striving for greater representation in the industry.
